51 percent of entrepreneurs in Bulgaria have websites, but only 9 percent of them use them for e-commerce, Eurostat data indicate.
95 percent of web sales were to customers inside the country, 35 percent traded with customers within the EU and 19 percent – with customers outside the EU. These figures are comparable to figures in the other EU countries. Companies point to transport charges as the main obstacle to cross-border web sales within the EU, as well as technical barriers such as the lack of knowledge of foreign languages or adapting product labelling and judicial reasons.
Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany are top of the list in web sales at 26, 25, 24 and 20 percent respectively, the average percentage for the EU being 16. At the opposite end of the scale, is Bulgaria, alongside Poland with 9 percent. The only country with a lower web sales percentage is Romania at 7 percent.
