Margaritis Schinas, Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission stated, in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, that there are no objective reasons why Bulgaria and Romania should not to be part of the Schengen area.

He added that during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, Bulgaria should dispel any doubts among some EU countries regarding its accession to Schengen. Commenting on Bulgaria’s bid to join the Eurozone and how ready the country is for membership of the Eurogroup, Margaritis Schinas stated that Bulgaria will be assessed by the rules. In his words, people who say Bulgaria is a risk are not acquainted with the achievements of the Bulgarian economy.
