As of today, Bulgaria is one of the first countries in the region, to put in place and use, when the need arises, the AMBER Alert system for missing children.
The system which is connected with the Facebook application, enables law enforcement bodies to send out messages with a recent photo and information about missing children to all users of the social network, within a radius of 200 kms. from the place where the child went missing. With over 2 billion users, this is a powerful instrument in seeking out missing children whose life and health are at risk. Its introduction is taking place in the context of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and is the result of four years of cooperation between the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime and Facebook Inc.
