Serbia and Montenegro could be welcomed to the European Union in 2025 if they meet all the criteria. This is what the European Commission's strategy for a credible perspective and a stronger commitment of the EU to the Western Balkans envisages.

The strategy states that all countries in the region must unequivocally overcome the legacy of the past by achieving reconciliation and by resolving disputes with their neighbors.
