The annual summit meetings between China and the Central and Eastern European countries "16+1" are useful to the EU as a whole, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a meeting with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva and dismissed concerns that Beijing wants to split the continent.

At a meeting in Argentina with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva, Wang Yi said that the 16 + 1 format has a positive impact on economic development.

"The 16 + 1 cooperation and China-EU cooperation are not mutually exclusive. This is useful for the process of European integration," said Minister Wang Yi, quoted in a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. China believes that this year's summit with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in Bulgaria will bring new positive results and will further develop mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Central and Eastern Europe, Wang Yi added.
