The first satellite created entirely in Bulgaria is already in space. EnduroSat One was launched to the International Space Station on 21 May and is already on board of it waiting to be put into orbit. Its mission is focused on scientific and educational goals and it will be used for a practical training in satellite communication. Radio amateurs from across the globe will connect with it.
The satellite is sized 10 X 10 X 10 cm and is the result of three years of work of a Bulgarian team. All technologies featured in the satellite have been conceived and made in Bulgaria. It was assembled in this country as well.
The satellite is going to fly with close to 30,000 km per hour and will tour the Earth 16 times every 24 hours. It is equipped with an autonomous system for navigation and control and will be permanently under surveillance of a command center based in Sofia.
