There is a high presence of women in the fields of information and communication technologies and the media in Bulgaria and this country tops the EU ranking together with Sweden, the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel told the Bulgarian National Radio. According to statistics, only 17% of all 8 million experts in the field of digital technologies in the EU are women, while there is a strong deficit of personnel on the labor market. Commissioner Gabriel assessed highly Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and pointed out that the negotiations under the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, the European Electronic Communications Code have been completed during the Bulgarian EU Presidency. A progress has been registered on the free movement of non-personal data. A common approach has been reached in the field of cyber security. Thanks to strong actions shown during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU we can expect that the Digital Single Market will be completed by the end of 2018, Mariya Gabriel said.
