In 2017 there were 70 fintech companies registered and operating in Bulgaria. Thus, the country has the largest number of fintech companies in Central and Eastern Europe, ahead of the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia.
Bulgaria has the largest number of start-ups using fintech to offer a higher standard of services in finance. The country is also leader among the countries of the region with regards to effectivity of innovations, occupying 15th place in the world in this sphere.
