A national summer anti-AIDS campaign is currently taking place across Bulgaria. As of today, until 15 September, 13 surgeries in the country will be offering free and anonymous counselling and testing for HIV.
According to Health Ministry data, over 162,000 people have been tested for HIV at them over the first 6 months of the year. 2,876 HIV-positive people have been registered in Bulgaria since 1986. The tendency continues of the number of newly registered men being multiple times higher than of infected women.
This year the age group affected most is 30-39 – 44 percent, followed by the 20-29 year olds – 25 percent.
