Bulgaria’s ombudsman Maya Manolova has asked for the assistance of her Cyprian counterpart for resolving the problem of the Bulgarian drivers insured at Olympic, the Cyprian insurance company which went bankrupt.

Manolova stressed there were legislative loopholes which mean consumers are not given sufficient protection in the event of bankruptcy of an insurance company from one EU member country with a branch on the territory of another EU member. For this reason the Bulgarian ombudsman asked for the assistance of her counterpart in Cyprus for the payment of the compensations and benefits under the contracts which have automatically been terminated.
