Crimes in Bulgaria grew close to 3 percent during the past year compared to 2016, with the total sum of registered crimes at 107,000. The figures have been quoted in the annual report on the activity of the Prosecutor‘s Office which was passed by a majority in parliament.

The document reports that high crime levels relate to poverty, depopulation of small towns and villages and high internal migration towards big cities.

In 2017, the solved crime rate was 43.7 percent or 3.9 percent down on 2016.
