Bulgaria ranks 46th out of 162 countries in the world in the Canadian Fraser Institute’s “Economic Freedom of the World: 2018 Annual Report ”.
The report is based on 2016 data because it is the last year for which official data is available for all countries. Bulgaria’s result in this year's survey is 7.41 points out of a maximum of 10 points, which places the country in 46th position, with Botswana immediately before Bulgaria, and Uganda – immediately after.
Compared to the 2017 report, Bulgaria scores 0.01 points more, but remains in the same position. Bulgaria is given the maximum number of points for its 10 percent flat tax and low and stable inflation rates, but the country continues to receive the lowest rating for its judicial system – independent and impartial courts.
This result places Bulgaria 19th within the EU.
