Minister Temenuzhka Petkova: Diversification and competitive energy supplies are a top priority for the government

At a meeting with Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova representatives of employer organizations stated their support for the work on the construction of new gas interconnections between Bulgaria and neighbouring countries for guaranteeing national consumption at competitive prices.

Minister Petkova informed the participants of upcoming talks with Gazprom on changing the contract terms with the company, emphasizing that diversification and competitive energy supplies are a top priority for the government, and that it is working actively in this direction.

The sides also discussed the challenges facing Bulgarian power generation connected with the rise in the prices of carbon emissions. In recent months they have gone up considerably, reaching a level of 25 euro per ton. As of October the price of natural gas will go up by 14 percent. Central heating and hot water prices will go up by between 2 and 9 percent. The price of electricity will not be going up as yet, it was announced today.
