With celebrations, concerts and theatrical performances, Dobrich marked 25 September, the day of Dobrich. On this date, in 1940, Dobrich, along with the entire region of South Dobroudzha, which had been annexed by Romania in 1913, was restored to Bulgaria through diplomatic channels. After World War II they were officially recognized as Bulgarian territory by force of the 1947 Paris Peace Treaties.

Last week the National Assembly declared Dobrich, and one more town in Dobroudzha – Toutrakan - towns of Bulgaria’s wartime glory. In the complex and controversial history of World War I, the battle for South Dobroudzha against the forces of the Triple Entente was a just battle fought by the Bulgarian people. It was won in the battlefield, but lost politically, because in this war, Bulgaria fought on the side of Germany. The epopee of Dobrich, 5-7 September, 1916, was a brilliant operation by the Bulgarian land forces, air force and navy operation and it ended in victory against a superior force.

To mark the day of Dobrich, and its being proclaimed town of Bulgarian wartime glory, a postage stamp was issued, depicting the heroes of the Dobrich epopee.
