Sofia second in Europe in growth of international overnight visitors for 2017

Sofia is second in Europe in growth of international overnight visitors in 2017, compared to the previous year, the MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index shows.

The index includes 162 countries. The growth rate is 15.2 percent year-on-year. Sofia is ranked one notch below Istanbul (16.8 percent), and ahead of some of the most popular tourist destinations, such as Lisbon (14.6), Paris (13.1), Munich (12.9) and Warsaw (12.3 percent). Sofia is ranked fifth in Europe by international overnight visitors for the period from 2009 until 2017. With an annual growth rate of 9 percent, the capital of Bulgaria is ranked after Bucharest (10.3), Lisbon (10.6), Minsk (10.0%) and Santa Cruz de La Palma (9.3 percent).
