Archeologists discover world's oldest undamaged sunken ship near Varna

A fully preserved Greek merchant ship dating back to ancient times was discovered off the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is more than 2400 years old, archaeologists reported.

It is believed that these are the oldest intact remains of a ship found in the world. The discovery was done by a Bulgarian-British scientific team. I would never have guessed that we could find an intact ship from antiquity two kilometers deep down, Professor of Archaeology Jon Adams ofthe Center for Marine Archeology at the University of Southampton said. According to him, the discovery would change our understanding of shipbuilding and navigation during antiquity.The Black Sea Map expedition has been exploring the Black Sea bottom at an area of ​​more than 2000 square kilometers along the Bulgarian coast for three years now.
Surveys are done with the use of a sonar and a remote apparatus equipped with deep-sea cameras.
