New Bulgarian documentary brings public attention to the problem of intellectual property

Young people are rarely aware that when they take a selfie or a video, they are actually creating an artistic product of their own. And as it is created, it is automatically subject to copyright.

The idea of intellectual property and the right to benefit from one’s own creative work is not particularly popular in this country and public attention is negligent. In reality, however, it is an issue of utmost importance.

It is with the idea of bringing attention to this problem that Bulgarian singer and founder of the duet Avenue Velizar Sokolov Zakki produced the documentary film “The Copyright. You are an author too! And can benefit from it!” The film is financed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office, EUIPO, and in the space of 15 minutes or, shows what will happen to people in the not too distant future when they will have used up whatever there is to use in life, and will be bored to death. Director of the film, shot in Sofia and in the locality of Atoluka near the town of Bratsigovo, is Borislava Dimova, Levena Filcheva and Iliya Kaynakchiev are screenwriters, and Vesela Valtchinova-Toshkova is costume designer, hair and makeup artist.
