One of the government’s priorities is to develop the gas transmission infrastructure of Bulgaria so the country may retain its leading role in the region in transporting and trading in natural gas, said Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova in Corlu, Turkey, where she got acquainted with the work on laying the pipes for the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.

Minister Petkova laid emphasis on the importance of building the Balkan gas hub on Bulgarian territory to connect the natural gas markets of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Moldova etc.

Russian natural gas, gas supplies from Turkey along the Southern gas corridor, as well as from USA, Qatar, Algeria, Egypt etc., via the liquefied natural gas terminals in Greece and Turkey, are all being considered as principal sources for the hub.
