PM Boyko Borissov described the European Council decision to support UK’s Brexit deal as a historic day, but in a negative sense.

“A country, and not just any country but Great Britain, is leaving the EU. This is a sad day,” Boyko Borissov commented in Brussels. He added that the agreement envisages a settlement scheme for European citizens, and that this includes Bulgarians who live, work and study in the UK, with reciprocal guarantees.

The European Council endorsed Bulgaria’s proposal to monitor closely the observance of the rights and interests of citizens and to maintain equal conditions. The Bulgarian Prime Minister stated close cooperation with London should continue in the fight against terrorism, the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, trafficking in people and narcotics, special services, financial transfers.
