Dozens of buildings in Bulgaria were lit up in orange on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In Sofia, the buildings of the National Palace of Culture and of the Sofia Opera and Ballet went orange. Their example was followed by buildings in the cities of Bourgas, Varna, Rousse and other towns. This marked the start of 16 days of activism that will conclude on 10 December, International Human Rights Day, as part of the UN campaign Orange the World.

Today the Bulgarian Fund for Women is organizing a protest in Sofia against violence against women. One woman is killed in Bulgaria every two weeks, the Fund says.
