European experts propose action plan for preservation of Buzludzha Monument

Europe Nostra, a leading organization for cultural heritage preservation and the Institute at the European Investment Bank have published a report on the Bulgarian Buzludzha Memorial House dating back to the times of socialism. The building was declared one of the 7 most endangered sites of cultural heritage in Europe in 2018 under the "Buzludzha Project" Foundation nomination. According to European experts, "the Buzludzha monument is a unique engineering achievement" and a "masterpiece of architecture of obvious European importance", which must stand "beyond future political controversy." The report proposes that the building be declared a cultural heritage monument of national importance. Its recovery would cost about EUR 7.5 million and could be financed under the European structural funds.
