Bulgaria’s Parliament approves inquiry committee to study facts and circumstances under passports-for-bribes scam

Bulgaria’s National Assembly approved a temporary committee of inquiry to study the facts and circumstances related to the information in European and Bulgarian media about scandalous bribe scheme for acquisition of Bulgarian passports. The committee must present the results in a report within 3 months. Let us remind that at the end of October this year the Chairman of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad Petar Haralampiev was detained in an investigation of corruption scheme for illegal issuing of Bulgarian origin certificates. Over 20 people were arrested in the operation. Later, Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov said that the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad may be closed.
