1400 people from all over the country set out on a hiking trip in the footsteps of Hristo Botev's revolutionary band as a sign of respect to the feats of Bulgarian fighters for freedom. The initiative is held for the 73rd consecutive year. The route is 120-km long and goes from the Danube city of Kozloduy to Okolchitsa peak in Stara Planina. The hike will take five days to complete.

On May 17, 1876 on the Danube bank in the region of Kozloduy, a group of Bulgarian emigrants arrived and started their way to the mountain to help the participants in the April Uprising in the hope of liberating the homeland from five centuries of Ottoman oppression. The revolutionaries were led by poet Hristo Botev, who was struck by a bullet and killed near the Okolchitsa.
