“Many of the applicants of Bulgarian origin to Bulgarian higher educational establishments say they have problems with language proficiency. That is why the St. Kliment Ohridski University, Sofia, is organizing summer courses,” says Prof. Svetozara Halacheva head of the Department For Language Teaching And International Students.

The university is offering two or three-month courses before the start of the academic year. The Council for Working with Bulgarians Abroad with Vice President Iliana Yotova wants the certificates of Bulgarian origin, valid until now, to be replaced by a certificate of B2 level proficiency in the Bulgarian language. The language training can be conducted by Bulgarian language teachers at schools abroad, using the website of the department with over 500 exercises, texts and dialogues for certifying language proficiency, Prof. Halacheva said.
