Over the last quarter, the economic activity rate of the population aged 15-64 has increased by 2% compared to the same quarter of 2018, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI). The employment rate indicator of the population also rose by 2.8% as unemployment dropped by 1.3%. Permanently unemployed people aged 15-64 make up 5.2% of economically inactive people in the same age group. 63.3% of all employees work in the sector of services, 30.0% – in industry and 6.7% – in agriculture, forestry and fisheries. The employment rate in the age group 20-64 increased by 3.1%, with the rise among both men and women being almost the same. The growth among the population aged 55-64 reached 4.0%. The total number of unemployed people is 142,000 out of which 58.2% are men and 41.8% are women. 15.1% of them have higher education, 45.1% have secondary education and 39.8% have primary or lower education.
