Bulgaria wants its current Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel to head the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development at the new European Commission, Politico informs. The Bulgarian diplomat also said he could not confirm that a Bulgarian Commissioner will replace Phil Hogan, but Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov has discussed this topic with the next President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. Agriculture is a key sector. It is among the sectors which receive highest EU funding and agricultural issues often provoke violent disputes in the EU.
