Cyclists are protesting this evening under the slogan "March for Life" in front of the Council of Ministers in Sofia, calling for legislative changes to increase safety for cyclists.
In an interview with BNR, Ivo Delin, of the VeloEvolution Association, said protesters were demanding harsher punishment for drivers involved in hit-and-run accidents. Delin also pointed out the near-zero commitment of authorities to the condition of cycling lanes and traffic offenders. The protest was sparked by a hit and run incident on a Sofia boulevard, after which the driver escaped from the scene of the incident and has not yet been identified. The injured man later died in hospital.
