A week-long protest against the killing of animals because of their fur is being held in front of the parliament building in Sofia. The action attracts the attention of passers-by with its unusual character. Volunteers have entered a metal cage to illustrate the suffering of animals in fur farms. The purpose of the action is to motivate MPs to ban the production of fur in Bulgaria. According to the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, in Bulgaria there are 2 farms for American minks with nearly 130,000 animals in them. About 70% of them will be killed for their fur alone by the end of November. If the bill was accepted, the prohibition on valuable fur farming would come into force at the beginning of 2021. Most of the people in Sofia support the legal discontinuation of activities of fur farms and express their opinion that they consider the use of animal fur for clothes as obsolete.
