Sofia asks European Parliament to strip MEP Elena Yoncheva’s immunity

The Bulgarian authorities have approached the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli with the request to strip the immunity of Bulgaria’s MEP from the Group of Socialist and Democrats Elena Yoncheva, Mr Sassoli himself announced during the opening of the plenary session today in Strasbourg. Bulgaria’s Specialized Prosecutor’s Office wants to initiate criminal proceedings against MEP Yoncheva. The request was submitted to the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs, David Sassoli specified.
