Bulgarian Vice President calls for uniform EU criteria on rule of law

In order for the proposed EU Mechanism on the Rule of Law to be successful, it must be objective and double standards should be removed, Vice President Iliana Yotova said at the opening of a conference in the European Parliament on the topic of 12-Year Cooperation and Verification Mechanism in Bulgaria. Vice President Iliana Yotova recalled that in 2013 a pan-European corruption report showed that there were problems in all countries. However, the decision to make such a report every 2 years was not fulfilled. Yotova pointed out the undisputed role of monitoring Bulgaria, but pointed out some of its defects - the lack of clear enough criteria for assessing progress and politicizing control checks, such as the case of Bulgaria's failure to enter Schengen.
