Bulgarian Socialist Party proposes that public-service media financing be linked to GDP

A total of EUR 24 million for the Bulgarian National Radio and EUR 36 million for the Bulgarian National Television are the amounts foreseen for the public-service media in the 2020 State Budget. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has come up with a new model for funding the public-service media in this country which will lead to setting up the Radio and Television Fund, which has long been postponed. The main idea is that the state will provide financing for the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television, which is tied to the gross domestic product by being 1.5 ppm of the country’s GDP /GDP for 2018 was a little over EUR 55 billion/. Currently, the subsidy for public-service media is determined by the finance minister. BSP proposes that the Radio and Television Fund be operational from January 1, 2021.
