A sharp increase in the cargo tranffic through the Bulgaria-Turkey border has been registered, Bulgaria’s and Turkey’s customs administrations announced at a meeting with representatives of the Turkish transport sector. In less than three years nearly 1 million TIR trucks crossed the Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo border checkpoints and between January and November 2019 their number amounts to 640,000. This was due to the economic situation in Turkey which favors trade with the EU. The Turkish haulers face difficulties related with the large queues at the border crossings. However, they admit that in the recent years the authorities of the two countries have made significant efforts to improve the organization at the border checkpoints and their efforts have already yielded some results.
