The rest profess other religions. 35% of the polled say Christmas is more important than New Year's and 43% think of them as equally important, according to a study conducted by Trend. 72% follow the traditions on Christmas Eve, but just 13% observe the Christmas fasts, with the elderly accounting for the largest share. 69% of respondents will be buying gifts for the upcoming holidays. 20 percent, mostly people over the age of 70 said they would not be buying gifts. 74% of people decorate their homes for Christmas and 79% will celebrate at home while 12% will be guests to relatives. Only 1% of Bulgarians will celebrate abroad. For 55% of respondents, Christmas is the most important time they will spend with their family and friends.
