Investigation under way of illicit waste trafficking from Italy to Bulgaria

The investigation into the garbage trafficking from Italy to Bulgaria is being conducted in the Pleven region under the direct supervision of the Interior Ministry Secretary General Ivaylo Ivanov. Prior to the pre-trial proceedings on this case in Pleven, the Chief Secretary had a conversation with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev. 

In December, authorities in Milan detained 17 freight wagons with 815 tonnes of illegal garbage that were supposed to be transported to Bulgaria. A large-scale investigation into the Calabrian mafia Ndrangheta was launched later, with more than 300 people arrested, including one Bulgarian.
