January is month with highest number of name's days in Bulgaria

The most popular names among newborns last year were Victoria and Alexander. Immediately after them come the names Maria and Georgi as the most preferred ones for newborns. According to the national statistics since the beginning of the 21st century, along with the traditional names for Bulgaria, people more and more often opt for names popular worldwide such as Alexander, Martin, Victor, Victoria, Nicol, Sofia. Among the most popular surnames are Ivanov, Ivanova, Georgiev, Georgieva and Dimitrov, Dimitrova. 

January is the month when the highest number of Bulgarians celebrate their name's day. A total of 807,548 Bulgarians celebrate their name's days on Saint Basil's day (Vasilyovden) on January 1, Epiphany (Yordanovden) on January 6, Saint John's Day (Ivanovden) on January 7, the Day of Saint Tatiana on January 12, Saint Anthony's Day (Antonovden) on January 17 and Saint Atanasius Day (Atanasovden) on January 18. Yet, the highest number of people celebrate their name's day on Palm Sunday  (Tsvetnitsa) - a total of 367 093 women and men.
