Bulgaria acquires 20% of the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis

By a government decision, Bulgartransgaz is to acquire 20 percent of the assets of the Gastrade project company which is construction the liquefied natural gas terminal near Alexandroupolis in Greece.

Bulgaria’s participation fully complies with the updated energy strategy and is an important step towards the implementation of the Balkan gas hub, at the basis of which is the assertion of a transparent, liquid and reliable natural gas market, the motives of the government decision read. Bulgaria has booked, for a period of 3 to 5 years, the purchase of 500 million cubic metres of liquefied gas from the terminal, though no less than 300 million cubic metres a year. The principal suppliers of the raw material in Alexandroupolis will be companies from USA and Qatar.
