Bulgaria has withdrawn its application for EU financing under the cohesion fund for the construction of the section of Struma motorway through the Kresna Gorge. This country continues to prepare the application form in correspondence with the environmental norms, the Road Infrastructure Agency has announced. The project remains our priority and we have not given up on it. The decision does not suspend the project and accelerates the work of all institutions to widen the only narrow section of the motorway that will connect Bulgaria and Greece, the announcement further reads.

According to a sociological survey, 78% of the Bulgarians think that the road through the Kresna Gorge is dangerous and that the construction of the motorway will increase safety of travelers.
