The Bulgarian Orthodox Church boycotts Orthodox summit in Amman

The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BOC) will not send representatives to the summit of autocephalous (self-governing) Orthodox churches to be held in Jordan's capital Amman. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church refrains from participating in the meeting. The council is convened by the Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilus III, but the initiative is of the Moscow Patriarchate. So far, only the patriarchs of Russia and Serbia have confirmed their participation in Amman, where the status of the Ukrainian, Montenegrin and Macedonian churches will be discussed.

The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew called the endeavor a belated one and also an act threatening the unity of Orthodoxy.
On February 19, the Bulgarian patriarch Neophyte congratulated the Orthodox brothers in Macedonia and said they could count on the support of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
