Bulgaria lifts ban on international freight traffic to Turkey

Bulgaria's Minister of Healthcare Kiril Ananiev has lifted the temporary ban on heavy goods vehicles travelling to Turkey, which was issued earlier today. The sanction applied to trucks from 67 countries, including Turkey's most important trading partner countries. The decision was dictated by the fact that a 50-km line of trucks had been formed along the Maritsa highway waiting to be allowed into Turkey as only the line at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint consists of 1,200 trucks, said the Chief of Border Police Svetlan Kichikov at the press briefing of the National Crisis Staff.
The Kapitan Andreevo-Kapikale border checkpoint between Bulgaria and Turkey is one of the busiest in the world in terms of number of vehicles and loads that pass daily as well as the main gate to Turkey from Europe.
The ban has been lifted after talks began between the interior ministers of the two countries to overcome the traffic crisis.
