Bulgaria calls on EU to alleviate rules for farmers over COVID-19 pandemic

Bulgaria has requested from European Commission to allow the implementation of a COVID-19 emergency measure in each of the programmes for supporting vulnerable farmers and food-processing workers. Bulgaria's Agriculture Minister Desislava Taneva has proposed to the Agriculture Council that each country should redirect its non-negotiated funds from rural development programs, fisheries and aquaculture, viticulture and wine to the agriculture and food processing sectors. The money will compensate for the cost of pandemic prevention, such as disinfectants, masks, protective clothing, storage costs, and losses from shrinking prices and non-manufactured goods.
