Bulgaria's debt is 20.4% of the country's GDP

The finalization of the fulfillment of the criteria for entering the exchange rate mechanism ERM II may be in the next few weeks, said Bulgaria's Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov. He is adamant that now is a good time for Bulgaria to take this step. 

According to experts, the agreed deadline is April 28, when Sofia must send its results to the European Central Bank. 
According to data from the National Statistical Institute in 2019, Bulgaria's debt for 2019 amounts to EUR 12.375 billion. This is 20.4% of the country's GDP. 
The state governance sector accounted for a budget surplus of EUR 1.268 billion, or 2.1% of GDP.
