Philologists have submitted a request to the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization for keyboard changes in compliance with the Bulgarian state standards. They motivate their request with the need to update the norms which date from 1978.

The changes requested include the elimination of two letters from the Russian alphabet - Э and Ы, and the addition of two currency symbols - $ and , as well as the old letters Ѣ, Ѫ and Ѭ, which have been dropped from the Bulgarian alphabet but “which are still used in scientific journals and in quotes from historical documents.”

According to the experts the changes, in accordance with Bulgarian state standards, will make the keyboard more ergonomic.
