Six trucks loaded with 137 tons of scrap plastic and metal were intercepted upon entry into Bulgaria at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint by customs officers because of lack of supporting documents. The trucks have Turkish registration, the recipient firm is Bulgarian.

“This is a successful operation by the Ministry of Environment, Border Police and the Customs Agency. The drivers probably did not know they were committing a crime,” said Environment Minister Emil Dimitrov for the BNR. The authorities are checking whether the trucks have been used before for the illegal import of scrap into Bulgaria
