Socialists elect new leader on September 12

The majority in the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party decided to hold a direct vote for chairman of the party on September 12 and a possible runoff - on September 19. Days later, on September 26 and 27, the party's 50th congress will take place. Currently, leader is the first woman to lead the party in their history, Kornelia Ninova.

The National Council also discussed the idea of setting up a parliamentary inquiry committee to investigate the government's links to accused businessman Vasil Bozhkov, who is hiding in Dubai.
