Three workers buried under collapsed tunnel Zheleznitsa rescued

After a 4-hour rescue operation the three workers buried under the collapsed tunnel Zheleznitsa have been taken out alive, Minister of Health Kiril Ananiev announced.

At around 1.40 AM one of the tubes of the tunnel, which is part of Struma motorway, was reported to have collapsed. According to official information by the consortium which is building the tunnel, rock mass collapsed during digging, burying three of the workers. They have been transported to the hospital in Blagoevgrad. One of the workers who is in very serious condition will be transported to Sofia. 

The tunnel is part of the finishing works on the last and most difficult section of Struma motorway across Kresna Gorge. Struma is the fastest road link between Sofia and Greece.
