At the beginning of today’s sitting of the Bulgarian cabinet, this country’s Premier Boyko Borissov commented the protests in Bulgaria which have been lasting for the eight consecutive day. Consolidation is needed in the country, Boyko Borissov said and warned that very difficult times may come if the Bulgarian cabinet resigns. We are to face an economic crisis as well, Premier Borissov added.
The demands of the protesters are just, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister commented further. “I have always been on the protesters’ side. The nation is deeply divided. I do not know how we would go through the coming months if we do not have a stability plan.”
As for the escalation of tension on Tuesday night Premier Borissov said the following: “I always resign when I see blood on the streets. They know that. That is why they are throwing bags of red paint to give the impression of spilled blood.” Emotion is not a good councilor, Premier Borissov said and added that the people are the only sovereign: “We have scored many victories in fair elections and respect the constitution and democracy. There are certain tools that tell how a term of office is ended and transparent elections are held” Boyko Borissov says.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary group of the Bulgarian Socialist Party submitted in Parliament a motion of no-confidence against the Borissov cabinet. The ruling parties forecasted that the upcoming motion of no-confidence will be rejected at the National Assembly like the previous no-confidence motions submitted by the socialist party. "The opposition has the right to submit a no-confidence motion. This is one of the instruments of democracy", GERB MP Menda Stoyanova commented. Valeri Simeonov from the United Patriots also called the motion of no-confidence normal and contended: “We are to vote the motion of no-confidence and reject it”. The Parliamentary group of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms has not decided yet whether to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion submitted by the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
