Police clear road blockades in the country

With an operation throughout the country after 4 o'clock in the morning, the police removed blockades of crossroads in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and near Stara Zagora. Without violence, all tents and personal luggage of protesters were removed from roads and streets. Some of the protesters told BNR that they would block key intersections again and that actions of the police were illegal because people had the right to civil disobedience.

Twelve protesters in Sofia have refused to comply with a police order to leave the street. They were taken to the police and after a short detention they were handed documents for administrative violations and released. 60 administrative violations were reported in Plovdiv, as well. Two protesters were detained in Varna.

Police said they started the operation to ensure the right of free movement of citizens because it had received numerous complaints from citizens who were dissatisfied with the illegal roadblocks created by the anti-government protests. At a press conference, the Sofia police said they would no longer allow blockades of streets.
