Fierce fires rage in several municipalities of Bulgaria

A disaster situation has been declared in the regions of Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad, Harmanli and Topolovgrad because of the fires raging there.

“The fires have spread to large areas of forests and farmland. There were 247 fires yesterday, and firemen took part in 73 rescue operations,” said Chief Commissioner Nikolay Nikolov, director of the Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate General.

He added that in the afternoon the rising temperatures and strong winds will likely complicate the situation
