Five teams of archaeologists begin excavations in Pleven district, Central Bulgaria. The archaeological studies will be done in the towns of Telish, Levski, Belene and Nikopol. The expedition of Associate Professor Gergana Kabakchieva from the National Archaeological Institute will study the remains of the Roman military castle Dimum near Nikopol and the Roman town of Polonia Lupiestos near the village of Gigen. According to the Director of the Pleven Regional Historical Museum Volodya Popov, the site near Telish is a major archaeological site in the Balkans dating back to the Chalcolithic period. In his words, the team of archaeologists is to work on the early Chalcolithic Age, which is not explored enough.
