A protest is taking place in front of the National Assembly building downtown Sofia under the motto “Grand national uprising” at the start of the new political season. Police formed a cordon between protesters and the Parliament’s building. Demonstrators are trying to break the Police cordon and storm the Parliament. The Parliamentary session is to be held in the new plenary hall located at the former comunist Party House for the first time.

Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev announced that he was to make an address to the nation and the National Assembly.

The 55th night of protests in Bulgaria passed peacefully and was shorter than usual due to the preparations for today’s event, BNR reports.

The organizers of the protests announced that this was the last day of peaceful protests and some demonstrators said that although they expected provocations, they would continue protesting until their main demands are met. Protesters from Varna, Ruse and other Bulgarian cities are expected to arrive in Sofia to join the mass protest today, the organizers announced.
